Attainment of POs, PSOs and Cos
The attainment of Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) is measured using both direct and indirect assessment methods to ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of the teaching–learning process. For CO attainment, assessment is carried out through direct and indirect tools. Direct assessment includes student performance in Mid Semester Examinations, End Semester Examinations, laboratory continuous evaluation, seminar reviews, project reviews, and comprehensive viva-voce. In theory courses, internal examinations carry 30% weightage and university examinations carry 70% weightage. For practical courses, internal assessment carries 30% and end semester examinations carry 70%. Technical seminars and comprehensive viva-voce are evaluated completely through internal assessment, whereas project work is assessed through both internal evaluation and external viva-voce. CO attainment levels are calculated based on students’ performance. Attainment Level 1 is assigned when CO attainment is less than 70%, Level 2 when attainment is between 70% and 79.99%, and Level 3 when attainment is 80% and above. The overall direct attainment is computed using 30% weightage for internal examinations and 70% weightage for university examinations. Indirect assessment of COs is carried out through Course End Surveys, where students provide feedback on the attainment of course outcomes. The weighted average obtained from the survey is considered for indirect attainment. Finally, the overall CO attainment is calculated using the formula:
CO Attainment = 70% of Direct Assessment + 30% of Indirect Assessment.
The attainment of POs and PSOs is also measured using direct and indirect assessment methods. Direct assessment is based on the attainment of COs and the CO–PO/PSO mapping matrix. For each course, PO and PSO attainment is calculated by multiplying CO attainment levels with the corresponding CO–PO/PSO correlation values and taking the average. The average attainment of all courses contributes to the final direct attainment of POs and PSOs. Direct assessment is given 80% weightage. Indirect assessment of POs and PSOs is measured through Graduate Exit Survey, Alumni Survey, and Employer Survey. The Graduate Exit Survey carries 10% weightage, Alumni Survey carries 5%, and Employer Survey carries 5%.The final attainment of POs and PSOs is calculated using the following formula:
PO/PSO Attainment = 80% of Direct Assessment + 20% of Indirect Assessment.
Thus, a systematic and measurable process involving examinations, continuous evaluation, surveys, and outcome mapping is followed to assess and improve the attainment of COs, POs, and PSOs.
